For surf lovers, Maresias is a great option, because of its 5km beach with white and fine sand and its widely famous waves, the best on the north coast. Maresias hosts many surf championships, including world stages. In front of the sea, the International Surf Square, recently inaugurated by the City hall, is the newest attraction of the neighbourhood. It has training centre for surfers and skateboarders, as well as a tourist information office and an exhibition of the history of the surf.
Discovered about 20 years ago for adventurers and surfers, it could be accessed only by a dirt road. It is a wonderful beach of clear water. We also recommend walking tours with professional guides specialized in the Atlantic forest, where you will be able to appreciate the beauties of the local fauna and flora. The beach has strong waves caused by underwater rocks which also provide unforgettable scuba diving sessions. On the horizon, it is possible to see the Alcatrazes Archipelago.
Leaving from Paúba, it is possible to reach Maresias by road (1,5 Km) or through a 1300mt walking track, from where you can access the viewpoint on the top of the hill. From there, you will see the beauty of waves breaking on the rocky coast line. From the view point it is also possible to sight the Pauba and Maresias bays.
